The region between the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea, according to Ptolemy. This map is struck from the woodblock used in the 1513 and 1520 edition of Ptolemy attributed to Martin Waldseemuller. All the other maps in Fries' rendering of the atlas were made from new, slightly smaller blocks, except for this one, printed from the original 1513 block.
