Close-up look at Japan, Tartary, and the west coast of America, based on Ortelius. The Sierra nevada denotes the coast of what is now California, and three cities are shown in the Southwest. Japan appears with an inscription about Marco Polo. Directly above lies the Strait of Anian, the hypothetical strait of Gastaldi. This is a very scarce edition -- The large page format is unusual for a miniature map in the Ortelius lineage.
